Australian Performers of Asian Music:

Joseph Tawadros - Joseph Tawadros was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1983. Immigrating to Australia in 1986, he brought with him a musical tradition inherited from his maternal grandfather, Mansi Habib

Kim Sanders ~ Multi-Instrumentalist and Composer. Difficult to categorise, he is a player of wind instruments with a strong interest in Turkish music.

Tenzing Tsewang ~ Tibetan music of many different forms, from folk music on flute, dramyen (lute) and vocal, to Buddhist chant.

Alan Posselt ~ One of Australia's leading sitar players and instrument makers (particularly tanpuras), this web site provides information about him, his CDs and his tanpuras.

Rakini Devi ~ One of Australia's more innovative dances, based on her Indian tradition.

Annandavalli ~ Sydney's best known Kuchi Pudi and Bharatanatyam dancer. Her school "Lingalayam Dance Company" presents regular performances each year.

Yumi Umiumare ~ Butoh dancer based in Melbourne. The last word in innovation!

Vimala Sarma - Nayaka Indian Dance ~ SNayika Indian Dance is a non-profit Australian organisation promoting South Indian classical dance and culture in Sydney. It conducts classes, presents performances, organises retreats and provides access to Indian cultural goods and services. The dances are in Kuchipudi style and are largely choreographed by Dr Vempati Chinna Satyam of the Kuchipudi Art Academy of Chennai and set to South Indian traditional music.

CBH Publications - An South Indian publishing site with interesting publications on Indian (mainly Carnatic) music, including PhD dissertations, encyclopedias of Indian music, tapes and CDs.  They also have a mirror site.

Publications, CD, Tape and Instrument Mail Order Catalogues

Raga Records - a good collection of archival and new recordings from some of India's greatest musicians. Includes some rare recordings by the graet sitar player Nikhil Bannerjee, and good dhrupad music. They also have downloadable mp3s of some of the artists.

TaalWizard ~ One of the best music related programs I've seen on the web.  And their recently release Version 2 is even better.  This program allows the computer to work as a tabla machine with a large range of tabla and pakhawaj rhythms to chose from, as well as the ability to create your own from some really good samples (you can also add your own samples).  Take a look at the web site and download their free demonstration program to try.  Note that the software is now called Swarshala is it now includes music as well as percussion.  It's latest incarnation is truly amazing.

Music Today - One of the best Indian recording labels in India, with a fine collection of recordings by the masters and the young up-and-coming classical Indian musicians.

Nordic Entertainment Worldwide - Nordic offers Music of the World for all to come enjoy and sample.
